Ran 10 buckets of dirt that I dug from the down stream side of a couple large rocks in the streambed. Water was about 2-3 feet higher this year than January 2016 when I was there. I had to dig down about 2 feet before I found any gold to speak of. The gold was fine to small flakes. I was able to get about 2 grams. I definitely want to return as soon as the water level drops.

This was my first visit to a GPAA claim, and it was fantastic. I met my father at the Bloody Basin Road exit, and the directions in the book were all we needed to find the claim. I had a topo map and GPS available, but didn't need them. As the other member reports warn, the last forest service road you take down to the claim is no joke. I had no problems in an older Ford Expedition, but before taking any 2WD vehicle, I would first ask, "will I need to drive this again?"

The claim area is beautiful, with plenty of areas to access the wash and the side drainages. The wash was dry, and has been for months, but you can still see the high-water mark from flooding that happened within the last few years. We found a nice area to set up a recirculating high banker, and processed about a dozen buckets. I took a few more buckets home, and I ended up tabling out enough fines and flours from the concentrates to keep me happy. We had a great day in the desert, and I can't wait for the next day of digging.

I took my detector up an down the wash and up the south side. Only hits were trash iron and aluminum. I did notice several large holes where recent prospecting activities took place - but seriously, we really need to fill in our holes when we are done. We need to be good stewards of our claims.
