Hello fellow miners and future friends.

I am new to ALL of this sort of thing.

Looking forward to meeting new people and going to new places.

I am curious to know where someone would go to sell any of the gold that is found.

    Larry-

Welcome.  Not to discourage you right off the bat, but please don't expect to find sellable quantities of gold in a hurry.  Unless you just happen to fall into a pocket, it just won't happen that easy.  Don't expect a windfall, gold is hard to come by and every flake is earned by sweat and sometimes some blood.  In most cases you will get more lasting friendships and outdoor exercise and experience than you will gold, but you will treasure all of it.

Gold is sold by weight and purity.  If you don't have it smelted to a bar or button and the impurities removed you will get less for it.  Gold as found can run from around 65% (from one area near me) to 95% + in purity.

Get with a chapter in your area or other prospecting / mining clubs and talk to folks on buyers they have had experience with.  The cas for gold outfits pay the least and if you have nuggets or pickers, ebay can be your friend as prices are way higher for small quantities there.

Blood sounds familiar. I seem to always end up with cuts and bruises when I go. First time I went sluicing I fell on the sluice and ended up with a 5 inch gash on my fore arm, Just kept working and bandaged it at the end of the day.

Thank you Arthur. That was the response I had expected. No, I am not expecting my new hobby to be some sort of get rich quick scheme. Just a new hobby for the family to be involved in.

I was hoping that was what you took it as, was not trying to get you discouraged or bent.  It will be a great family activity.  If you get with a chapter or club of some sort, there is a world of knowlege to be had for the asking and most members are more than willing to jump in and save a "newbie" some heartache and show some "tricks of the trade".   Wish you all the best in looking for some yellow.

As Arthur and Tim pointed out, injuries will be sustained.
Generally speaking, we work away from home, and should plan ahead accordingly.
First Aid on hand is a must, and never let the gold make critical decisions for you!
