    HI Ronda

If just under water make a para-scope with a can or tube and seal plexiglass to bottom. You will be able to see under water just below surface clearly. Also look into mossing it kind of goes together with sniping when done around creeks and streams.

Generally one of the sucker tube setups with various size tips to get into cracks.  If shallow water, then add long shank common screwdriver, crevis tools, etc,  Also a bucket to dump your sucker into, and pan of course.  Bigger suckers can keep a sluice going when you hit the big cracks.

Do a search on gold suckers or hand dredge and you will turn up many on the market, and they are fairly easy to make yourself as well.

Some old timers around the Columbia Ca. Italian Bar area told me they snipe in the spring, when nature kinda rinses the rivers, exposing any Gold nuggets. So they snorkel around when the Stanislaus river is warmed up a little in the Spring/Summer time. These old timer guys have claims down there and they used to dredge their claims. So I think they are like a lot of good 'ole prospectors, who give out the good info that we learn the hard way sometimes.
