I am in Reno this weekend and next, and want to get out to a decent area to metal detect? Not sure where would be good but I thought someplace with good known placers. Anyone else in the area looking to do the same let me know.

Thanks for replying. Gee...not peep from anyone on this board. I was just out in Reno again the last week in October and I went again during Nov 7 -18. I went up to the Rye Patch area ...again but no luck. This last time we went down to Yerington and camped out there for 5 nights near Pine Grove. In spite of the temp getting down around 8 degrees at night, we had fun. But no gold at all. When I am in Reno I usually go drive out to Humbolt range or over to Rye Patch ....which is more boring. I am sure there is gold to get there, or a little further north a few miles. Some areas out there "must" be better or more logical to detect. I am still trying to figure them out.

    Leo,

I'm trying to get more involved in using my metal detector, but I'm so new that I'm clueless and even more clueless about detecting in the Reno Area. I like going to Reno for different events and such, so it would be interesting for any feedback. I guess not very many on this board know about the Reno Area.

Good Luck! Sorry I can't help.

I have a business in Reno so I frequently travel there. I flew out last week in Oct cause I was invited to attend outing with the WSPA, which was at Rye Patch. That was fun and some guys did find nuggets. I am always looking for an excuse to go ....although this month gets harder because of the holidays and everyone traveling...ticket prices not good. It would be nice to have an organized outing or just a bunch get together. Someone out there should know some decent spots. But...then again...I guess its no different than having a favorite fishing hole?
