I was just wondering if anyone out there that goes nugget shooting has ever panned the ground that  the nugget was found in? What was the result? I always read about when running a dry washer or sluice run the MD over the tailings....but what about the opposite. i would think that the ground surrounding a nugget find may have a great chance of holding smaller gold that the MD can't pick up.

WELL  Leo, THIS IS A RELATED FIND.  I was detecting the dry washes below the Chocolate Mountains When I made a discovery.  I got a signal on a gulf ball size rock. I picked it up , wiped it off, and rechecked it. NO signal! I checked the ground, NO signal.  When it happened the second time, I noticed the flour gold flicks on my hand. The next signal, I wiped the rock off in a zip lock bag. After about a week I ran the zip lock contents thru my Gold Magic Wheel. It was hard work, but it was good gold.  I think the flour gold washed down during the rainy season and built up on the rocks to the point that I could pick it up with my PI.   Just a thought,  Frank...-

Wow, what a great picture! You take that? Was it daytime with a red filter or that "natural color?

That was taken with an old 6MP Canon 10D at Red Rock area of Dixie NF  which is above Zion NP.  I don't use filters, but I do admit to using the Photoshop Elements program.
