I have found a quartz vein that is about 2 feet wide and , what is visable , about 12 feet long. How do I work this? It's in gila national park new Mexico if that makes a difference on how to work it. Thx

If it is within a National Park boundary, you're out of luck.

If outside of the boundary, then dig out who owns the ground (federal or private), then who hold mineral rights.  Then see if withdrawn from mineral entry, and if any claims filed on it.

If outside the park, your state BLM office can tell you who owns the mineral rights if you provide them with township, range and section.  They can also break down any claims by 1/4 section in LR2000, any further breakdown can be done by the office.  Ground ownership can be found at the county recorders office.

    Welcome Dave,

Do not go there and start banging on this UNTIL you have done the research Arthur lays out.
Not doing so could put you in serious trouble, and the mining community in a real bad light.

If the rock is very white in color, it may not hold any gold, not that it cant.
I would look for reddish colored rock.

Thanks art and bill. It is just past the sunrise gpaa claim. I will probably leave it alone. The arroyo in the claim does drain from the area of this quartz vein.
