I purchased a GPX5000 last year. I've been to a 3 day training seminar, and plan on attending one more this summer. I'd like to find someone who wouldn't mind sharing some knowledge (GPX has been a little intimidating). I'm more than happy to cover fuel expenses and what not in trade for some valuable field training. I'm located in Boise, Idaho and don't mind travelling, even to eastern Oregon if need be. I'm a good listener and very motivated to become proficient with a  GPX.

The GPX 5000 is extremely complicated to use because of it many options. You have to STUDY the manual and then practice.  Your best bet is to watch the many videos about it on U Tube. I have seen some of those. You might have been better off getting the ATX which is far easier to use and far lighter.  Just my opinion,   Frank...-

I have read several books and watched numerous videos multiple times. Because of it's many options (like you said), I believe it is a little intimidating, especially for someone who hasn't had much field time with it. Is the ATX Garretts new gold machine? Do you have an ATX?

I also have a Fisher Gold Bug 2 which is much easier learning to use so far. I purchased the GPX to give me a tool for greater depth. Do you know what kind of depth the ATX is capable of?

    Thanks for the input!
