As some of you may be aware I am the new State Director for Florida. As a way for all of us to get to know each other, I would like to see if we can set up a group outing. Either metal detecting or fossil hunting here in Florida or maybe a weekend group dig at Curvins Cow Pasture in Alabama. I especially want to invite our military and first responders to join us. You do not need to be a member of the GPAA; but don't be surprised if I try and get you to Join.

    Tim,

When I worked in the phosphate business, the mines often uncovered megalodon teeth, prehistoric horse/cow and other mammal jaws and teeth. With liability being what it is....

The mines were Polk, Hardee, Hillsborough and Manatee Counties. The biggest player is Mosaic Phosphates (at least it was the last time I checked). They are based out of the Four Corners area in Southern Hillsborough County.

    Regards!

Is there someplace we can get more info on Curvins Cow Pasture in Alabama? The new Claim directory has no info. I might not be able to make the gather but it would be nice to have somewhere to go being in Florida. I thought it was a pay to pan type of place.

Roy, the new online mining guide has some information in it. The directions to Curvins are in the 2014 Mining Guide Book. The inner there has made a lot of improvements and added land for us. We want yo let him know we appreciate it by keeping it clean and Using the facilities.
