Used to use BLM a map showing the US but not published now.   What map gives names and good land marks to look a area over before you go there.   It was a good general map and once you located something you could drill down with other maps.   I just haven't found a comparable map to it.   Thanks

    Frank,
I have been using USGS topo maps that can be downloaded, saved and viewed with Adobe Acrobat. The nice thing is you can zoom in on a part and print out that part.

Additionally, I am using Google maps and Google Earth. Probably the most useful if you need to assess where to go initially.

On site, I have been using a Garmin GPS to find land ownership in the forest. Bought a chip with topo and other data on it.
