I am trying to find someone who has visited the LDMA Claim in Leadville, CO.  I am considering upgrading to an LDMA membership, and this is the only claim I would be able to use.  I don't want to waist thousands of dollars on an LDMA membership if the claim is not any good.  GPAA told me there are no hosts there, which might say a lot about the claim.  I appreciate anything you can tell me.  Thanks,

    David,
Leadville is a LDMA claim not a camp. It is one of the many LDMA properties that are not manned by caretakers. There is gold on the claim and for those that really use their prospecting skill it has given up some nice finds. The majority of the gold is fine with a few pickers here and there.
I will toss this out as well. The claim is at a high altitude and there have been a few folks that have not been able to handle it for an extended stay.
I would suggest that you hook up with a local to you LDMA member and visit the claim as a guest for a day. That way you will know that your LDMA membership is well worth the investment.
    Regards,
    Kevin

    Mr. Hoagland,

Thank you for responding so quickly.  I have been trying to find someone, who is an LDMA member, and would be willing to let me visit as a guest but that hasn't worked out yet.  I even contacted the GPAA last year and tried to get permission to use my one time guest visitors pass to an LDMA claim, but without any luck.  GPAA told me If there was a caretaker available then it wouldn't be an issue.  It's really too bad because having an LDMA claim I could access to see if I wanted to become a member would be great.  I guess it just wasn't meant to be.  Take care and be safe out there.

    David

No, but it's no longer an issue. I have since become an LDMA member, so hopefully I can visit the claim this year.

I live in Salida and would like to know what you think of the claim. I pay to work on a private claim south of Leadville.

I will probably visit the claim around the end of August or beginning of September 2021, so ask me again toward the end of September.

Would you interested in exploring this claim with me in September 2021?

Are your referring to Denise O'Neil's property that is located just off Highway 24 and East of Twin Lakes?

Unfortunately, unless you are an LDMA member, you are not supposed to use that claim unless you go as as guest. That is why I went ahead and joined LDMA because I wasn't having and luck on the GPAA claims in the area.

    Hi David,
Did you ever get up to Leadville? I am fairly close, and thinking about joining Ldma, mainly if Leadville is good! I've seen stuff over the years that was metal detected and it was impressive!!
    Thanks, Dave

I only had time to drive by and locate the claim last year. I'm hoping to actually be able to do some prospecting at least once this summer.

    Hi David,
Do you know if you could run a highbanker or small trommel up there? I know approximately where the claim is, but not exactly. It said there was water running through the claim, but I'm not sure about what equipment you could use.
    thank you, Dave

I was there toward the end of September, and there wasn't any water flowing, or standing, in the creek located along the road on the North side of the claim. There seemed to be a little water flowing in the creek along the West side of the claim going South, but I don't think it was enough to run a big highbanker or trommel. This creek was at the bottom of at least a 100 foot deep and steep area, which I didn't climb down to take a closer look. I did not get a chance to explore the Southern edge of the claim, so I am not sure what it looked like down there. I guess you could dam up a small section to put your pump in, but it would probably run dry fairly quickly with the water flow I saw. I think there might be enough water flowing for a small system like the Gold Cube, and I suspect there will be a lot more water available in spring and possibly into early summer. I hope this helps. Please let me know if you go up there an explore around. I would like to know what you discover to help me prepare for a return trip this year.

Thank you! I've got a friend in Frisco that is ldma hopefully I can talk him into going up there. I'm thinking about getting one of those Gold Fox mini trommels, If I can find a place I can run it!
