I was wondering if anyone has a preferred place to buy pay dirt to pan with where you will find good color.  I ask because my 5 year old daughter has become bitten by the gold bug and I want to help "cultivate" her understanding of the trade.  I my self am green at it all but have a couple trips planned with family and friends to go on a couple GPAA claims.  I want the pay dirt to make sure my daughter finds something.  Just looking for any suggestions.  Yes I know this may be teaching her a "bad" lesson about success and failure but hey she is 5, I cant break her heart at that age!  Plus if I get her to see my side of things about prospecting, maybe we can both convince my wife to make more prospecting trips.  Thanks for your help in advance.

I will preface this by saying that I have not purchased from anyone.  Have heard good things about the quality and quanity of stuff from Randy Witham (here on the forum).  Have not heard anything about the bags the GPAA had/have available. GPAA used to sell bags at the shows (or there facilitator did) and heard good things about that, but don't know availability  of that line anymore.  Those first  two would be worth checking with off the top of my head.  Randy's availability can be spotty.

The very best part of it is that you can toss it all back in and do it again and again to work on the panning skills, after working it in a tub, and whatever you find on the claims can stay in the vials, for show material.

Click on the store in the green bar above and you will find Tom and Perry's Dirt Bags for $39.99 but there is no description... I have never bought any pay dirt anywhere so I do not know how much gold anyone puts in bags... I do know that some places also put gemstones in as well...

If you look in the Gold Prospectors magazine, there are a few pay dirt advertisers that have been very loyal to the GPAA LDMA members. Also, if you purchase a dirt bag from GPAA, I can tell you that there is at least 8 grains of gold in each bag.

You can also check out Gold Pay dirt Reviews on YouTube, he has video reviews on most of the popular pay dirt sites and he breaks down what type of gold can be expected as well as an average return on investment.

I have tried out Felix Pay Dirt one time and I can tell you. For the amount of gold in Felex's 2lb bag, it has good gold in it and I was pleased!

    Benjamin,

Great question... Lots and lots and LOTs of cons sellers out there..........lots of suppose promises and supposed great gold bags to be had... BL is this , you get what you pay for...

I have been prospecting since 2006 and selling my various cons blends since 2008. I have sold thousands of all sorts of cons bags on eBay, my web site and direct in person. I have made it a mission of sorts to give fellow panners & prospectors a "fair shake" on cons and gold. I now sell 3 types of "standard" cons to meet the desires and panning skills of most folks............Easy, Expert & average panners...

I make up custom bags too...

I build up and deliver a guaranteed amount of gold or my Easy & Expert bags & the 1+ grams Colorado bags I sell offer even more with my as panned/sluiced/Gold Cubed cons.

So, no need to buy risky cons when you can buy some fun to pan Colorado cons. PLZ check out my web site Forum "Classifieds" section where there's a good amount of my cons reports and such...

Randy, I see all these ad's and it leaves me wondering......how do "you" know how much gold is going to be in the bag.....and if you do know....then why not process it? I have the general hunch that no matter how many bags I bought I still would never get a positive return. Right? Or is this just a way for the seller of the "dirt" to make great money based on calculating X amount of grains of gold to X amount of pounds of dirt? I am not trying to put the practice down...of selling dirt by the bag... Perhaps is does provide a service by giving some people who really would otherwise have a hard time getting out to pan, the fun to at least try it.!

I bought several bags from Ga. panned it out then remixed and ran thru my clean up sluice,,,, OUCH ! a lot of loss, repanned and retesting to find and reduce loss issues,, I ran most of the "dirt" thru, then the mixed w gold dirt into a green pan, panned out losses then panned out cleanup,,,, still have a lot of tuning to do I see !! so yes it has its winter advantages but not sure I got my moneys worth out of it,,, but for what I wanted to do it works.

The Gold Prospectors Magazine is a good place to start looking for a bag. Ebay is another good source. Look for a fixed price bag and see how many they have sold, check their feedbacks.

Buying Cons bags is a way lot cheaper than flying or driving halfway across the country and then trying to find a place not overly picked over where you may or may not end up with anything. For me CA. is 2600 miles away, costs a grand to take a trip there. That's a lot of cons bags. I have been to CA. six times and paid a lot of money and have found about a hundred dollars worth of gold. Though gold is not the only reason I go, it's a beautiful state and the terrain varies so much, there is so much to see an do.

I usually sluice up what I can while I am there and take the cons home to sort thru at least a couple times when I have a bit more time. I have worked all day  and ended up with very little to show for it (blisters and sunburns) so cons bags in the garage at home during a Lions Game, isn't a bad idea!

                                                                                                                Good Luck to All...

I have bought pay dirt from several online vendors.  Every vendor I have tried to-date has always delivered a quality product in terms of quick delivery and packaging.

I classify and process the material at least twice through gold cube and/or panning.  After processing, cleaning as best as possible, and weighing the gold the return on investment is logged using $1,300 gold price.

My best return on investment has been pay dirt purchased from Gold Fever Prospecting.com

    http://www.goldfeverprosp...7nqbECFeSMTAodoyoAXA

Here is a sampling of the return on investment for paydirt purchased from Gold Fever Prospecting website:

    8lbs of Fun      ROI: 58.15%

1lb Gourmet Practice Gold   ROI: 51.16%

Nome Beach Gold, Alaska    ROI: 65% to 72%

20lbs of Eureka Pay dirt    ROI: 63% to 71%

Heavy Black Sands    ROI: 69% to 74%   (Trick: Remove the magnetic black sands before processing.)

I just purchased a few bags from Gold Hog.  They have a video at their website describing how they put the concentrate bags together.  While the ROI for gold is not expected to be high, I am more interested in seeing what gems I may find.

While processing purchased concentrates can be fun, the experience of getting outdoors to produce your own concentrates is priceless.

I like to buy "Mystery" Concentrates because you just don't know what you are going to get, and they are usually dirt cheap. I bought some Arizona dry wash concentrates a few years back for $15 dollars on ebay and it did not have a spec of gold in it until a nice nugget fell into my pan, it more than paid for itself.

But when teaching people to pan I like to work with a known quantity and type of gold, and there is a place out of California called Gold Fever Prospecting that seed their Concentrates to your exact specifications and amount. They will add fine nuggets, flour, flake, or large nuggets, but they are a bit high priced in my opinion. The advantage of this is of course you know the quantity before you start which you can use to test your equipment or techniques.

I am going to have family coming to town here in the near future and will be buying a bag of concentrates to teach them how to pan, but as Micheal said above, it's much better to get out and collect your own, but sometimes that is not always feasible, and some cheap concentrates can help set the hook, it's amazing to see peoples eyes light up when a nugget hits the pan.

I bought a bag from Gold Hog this last Winter and my wife was very pleased with the nice gems that fell out of the bag, but the amount of gold was quite low.

When it comes to "Return on Investment" people should always consider that when selling raw gold very rarely are you going to get anything close to spot price, it's usually 75% or less depending on where you are selling it and if you take the time to melt it into a dore button prior to sell. You can make more money by selling nuggets you find on ebay, or if you have a large enough quantity taking your gold to a refinery, but the small time prospector will often get hosed selling their finds not knowing where to sell, I have even been offered as low as 30% for raw gold and walked away like anybody should.

I should probably open another topic on where to sell, refineries, and refining your gold at home, because it is very involved and a whole subject to itself. My micro kiln works but is sub-optimal and I would like a better set up for making dore buttons.

One of our chapter members got a couple of 5 lb bags off ebay from Whiskey Pete's.  She kept track of colors from each tablespoon.  Anywhere from 1 to 14, no "skunks".  The other bag they brought to the panning demo we did at Cabella's and after the kids got done with the pyrite crystals they got a tablespoon of the cons and got to keep what they found.  If it was a "dry" spoon, they got another try and all went home with real yellow. It is 1/2 minus paydirt for $18/5 lb + ship.

I just got 2 5 lb bags last night and will work one down theis w/e and edit ths for what the contents were when I get through it.

I got 5 gallons of Colorado River Sands classified down to 1/8" that has more black sands in it than any dirt I have ever seen, but the amount of gold is a bit low. After working with it for a few days I realized it has another unique property, it makes your finger nails clean and hard as steel. I was thinking of selling it to beauty salons for women to naturally clean and strengthen their nails.

As I said before I like mystery dirt, you just don't know what you are going to find and more times than not I have gotten a nice ROI. But save that for the Winter, this is digging season, get out there and collect your own.

I don't go much alone.  With a heart that is running at about 20% I don't get up and down banks as I used to, and get way short of breath real fast.  At least it will keep me in the game, and this is kind of a one time trial for now.

    Greetings Mr. Jackson,

I have been selling panning concentrates for over twenty years and have been an LDMA member for a few years longer. The bags we sell are "salted" so we can guarantee the amount of gold in the bag. We have two different amounts we sell but can also make up any amount you like. We have at least one picker nugget and the flakes are pretty course compared to what you may find in the field, depending where you go. The objective we hoped to achieve was with modest panning skills, our customers could recover almost all of the gold in the bag. They are excellent for the beginner. We do recommend panning into another container then see if you missed any. I always pan my concentrates that way as well. I do consider myself a skilled panner, but I am still surprised once in a while that some got away.

As you can see from some of the comments above, you will find a variety of costs and gold amounts. I have been told by a number of our customers, we offer one of the better values of cost to gold amount. We have one customer that has ordered a bag of our panning gravel every month since Sept., 2009

We have been advertising in the GPAA magazine classifieds for some time now. We are currently NOT in EVERY issue. Should be in the Sept/Oct issue.

If you would like additional information, Please write us at: DreaMail - PO Box 1790 - Fairview, NC - 28730

Regardless who you buy from, enjoy.

    Mr. Lynch,

This is a clear advertisement of your company and in the gold mining industry there is a sucker born each and every minute. It is clear you are selling concentrates (Fairy Dust?) and if I read your post correctly you have bought a great deal of your own concentrates and done well, I do think most of us would like to have the earth seeded for us by mother nature, but I myself do buy concentrates at times just so I have material that will peak the interest of beginners, and yes I explain to them how it is achieved.

I am curious about these concentrates you have and I recommend you send some samples to members of this forum at random, and I ask this because far to often these are some of the worst scams on earth. If they have good results then they will tell others, so please, and I will say this nicely, send out some sample bags of "Your Material" since you chose to use this site to promote it, which I do not approve of. Please do not send one to me, pick randomly but make sure I am not one. If your product is nothing more than Texas red clay maybe somebody here on this forum will have some good things to say about your company, but please understand that a majority of the people on this site take pride in their ability to find their own gold and despise people selling concentrates.

I am sorry, but your last post reminds me of the last time some Nigerian hack job was trying to get me to buy something. If you are legit and want legit business please send your product to the heads of GPAA and have them evaluate, examine, and determine if it is a worthy product, and are you allowed to advertise on this forum, much less if you are even real?

Please take no offense to my comments I just want to make sure of what your credentials and reality is since you just joined, you are advertising, and you don't even bother to fill out your profile? Your last feedback you posted is nothing but post from a Forum I have never seen before.

Granted you might be legit, I am going to ask for you to prove it?

Rhett, Seriously give it a break. You are here like trying to push your company paydirt, reminds me of a family member trying to make money off his own family. Is business that bad that you have to come here and push your product to the members? Why not just take an advertisement out in the "prospectors" magazine and let people figure it out on their own. Myself, even if your product is better than any other, I get turned off by this approach that you are taking. And believe me, I can spot and read the story line before I even read the complete book.

I checked out the website and what I seen and noticed right away....the rampant use of stock photos to create the website. I have seen enough of those in my day to know that the website itself is fake. The pictures of guys in suit's and a corporate look.....mining pictures....with heavy equipment.....Gee...do you think that we are that naïve? Show us real pictures of your mine.....cause anyone can buy flakes on the open market and salt bags of dirt.

    Mr. Lynch,

If your business is legit and your membership was not paid for by a stolen identity credit card, which GPAA will have to determine, I want you to send a sample of your material to any established member of this forum, but I recommend it is sent to one of the heads of GPAA so they can evaluate it, but I seriously doubt this organization approves of spam selling and advertising which is what also brought attention of your immediate post and membership?

I am not a officer of GPAA but I have read the bylaws as a member, so please send your sample you want to advertise to them plus your request to advertise your product, I seriously doubt it can or should be advertised.

I went to the link below that you posted to read the reviews, that is pretty impressive. Still trying to figure out why they are all labeled "private" ? Usually Ebay allows you to click the feedback post to take you back to the sale post.

Rhett, My feeling about you or your organization really has nothing to do with whether you might be scamming people or not, but I think foremost, and I think a lot of the other guys would agree.....that there is a right place and wrong place to be trying to make a buck off a "brother" or "sister". I see the forum as a place where we come to share ideas and help others out with issues. But not where someone comes pushing right into a conversation to sell their product. I dont see "ol Felix" coming onto the forum to sell his nor any others. I do believe their is a separate topic category for those that have things to sell. There is a line between a guy wanting to sell a piece of spare equipment and another running a commercial operation. It sure seems like you joined this club as a inexpensive way to advertise and sell your product. Since you must be great at having much success in finding so much gold in your concentrates, Why aren't you on these forums trying help the guys with some positive information about "how to do it" Show some pictures of what good "ore" or mineralized rocks will bring the most success. If you want to be respected as well as successful, you gotta first earn the respect. You say you "lost respect" for the guys here...but damn...I dont think you ever had it ... so how could you lose it?

Hey Leo, I went to his e-bay site and checked his reviews. The majority of his positive reviews were stock replies that people post when when giving reviews, like: "fast shipping good service", "good service, just like pictured", "got here quickly, fast service", "quick turnaround, nice product", "etc".

Not a lot of them gave actual reviews of the gold, and the ones who did were a mixed bag of results, from folks who say they found gold in "widely varying" amounts to folks who said "what gold" or "ran it over a miller table, nothing there".

Also, notice how his post disappeared after he kind of berated us for not believing him. don't know if he did it or the admin. Just curious is all.

And you're 100% right this is not the place for marketing. Pay to advertise ( which is usually a deductible expense ), don't use free forums that are for everyday folks to exchange info and knowledge.

I haven't finished the first of the 2, 5 lb bags I got from Whiskey Pete's off his ebay site.  Have about a 1/3 cup left to work from the bottom of the firstbag, and have not worked any of the snuffer bottle to get more of the black sand out of it.  So far have been pleased by what has showed up.  I didn't go into it looking for ROI, it was more curiosity and to see what might be there. After I go through the second bag, I will probably get a couple of more just to have something to play with on the porch when I get bored from everything else I'm into.

    Arthur,

My wife had a recent cardiac event which ended our season, she is recovering but it couldn't have happened at a better time now that the snow is settling in, but I am curious in your results because I don't have any material to play with this winter. Our last dig resulted in the worst dig I have ever seen. This old claim that we dug on that is now open property has been so cleared out that absolutely nothing exists any longer, but you go down or upstream 30 meters on either side and it is still rich, but very difficult to work.

    A few things I have learned about Colorado Prospecting since we moved here;

    1. If it is easy to dig, don't bother, it has already been dredged.
    2. If the section of river has nothing but large stones that are almost impossible to get apart that is where you need to start.
    3. Much of Colorado's rivers were heavily dredged over the last century so one must focus on finding areas that have not been touched.

The last batch was easy to dig, brought home a massive amount of dirt, and after panning through 1/4th of it we got maybe 6 grains of salt. I can honestly do better buying sand from a outlet store selling tools.

Please let me know your end results, over the holidays and the late winter it would be nice to have some inexpensive material to play with and teach the nieces, nephews, and grandkids with?

BC- will do, I didn't classify down with it the first time around, so want to go back and run through the 20,50 and 100 screens and repan (all still in the tub) and see what I missed the first time.  I know I blew a couple of flakes out of the pan and want to get them.  Will weigh the results and post them up.  I'll see if I can get it done by Thanksgiving.

Thanks, but had to give up hunting due to issues like your better half......3 in 36 hours, ejection factor of somewhere in the 15-20% range and a defib/ pacemaker implant 5 years ago.  Can only do limited walking and such with plenty of rest stops.  Actually surprised I have lasted this long.  If I got an animal down now, would have to stay and eat all of it right there, lol.  Add to that now that it is just me, I couldn't eat a deer in a year even if I could bring one home.

I've bought from Constellation Mining from Alaska. My first was off of Amazon.com but it's cheaper to go straight to them. They ship via USPS Priority Mail

I've always been pleased with the gold content but never really done an ROI calculation. It's a family owned mine and they are darn nice people via email.

    Here's a link: http://shop.pe/J0J8e

They also have a Facebook page.

    Rob

P.S. I'm not affiliated with them in the least - just passing on a nice business

Hey Everybody, I checked out the Constellation Mining website Rob mentioned. Really decent prices for Alaska paydirt, only $11.50 +s&h for a 1lb bag (they ship in USPS flat rate boxes). I might give them a try. I'll post the results if I do.

One note: if the paydirt really comes from a pit like the one in the pic of a guy in the hole with a shovel (click on the 1# paydirt and pics will come up check them out), I would give my left everything (arm, leg,n*t,etc.) to have access to that material with a highbanker.

Another cool thing was the subscription paydirt, EX: 1 - 1lb bag a month for 6 mos @ $10 a month +s&h (saves 1.50). They offer different size bags up to 15# bag ($150.00) for at least a 6 month period, some smaller bags can be shipped on a weekly basis.

Sounds interesting, I might check it out.

Actually, I have the subscription for 5lb each month as it gives me a reason to set up the Gold Cube and get the rush of opening up the top mat. I know there's gold in it but it's still a rush.

Here's a link to a video from the last shipment when I opened the Gold Cube:  https://instagram.com/p/89MxwCr1Vs/?taken-by=pixrob

One other thing - it's never 1 pound - always more. On my last subscription shipment, I got five 1lb bags and each bag weighed 1lb 4oz. It's shipped in Zip-loc bags that are double bagged.

I got a 1 lb. sample bag when I bought one his tables at the Loud Mine.  It was loaded for the size.  Many small flakes, some flour and 2 pickers.

I also picked up some dirt from the Heritage Mine in McCormick.  Dave (park caretaker) puts together a good bag for the money.  We got 6 pickers and a lot of flake, very little flour.

On a side note, the Martin Table has led to my permanent distraction and leading to an obsession of extracting every piece of gold, no matter how small.

Todd Martin is also one of the nicest, most genuine folks you could hope to meet.  I can also recommend Crisson's Gold Mine in Dahlonega, GA.

Tammy and Tony go out of their way to support their customers.  They also sell some good paydirt.

    Happy Pickers!

I just got done panning out a bag from www.Ipan4gold.com , owned by a member of the GPAA Augusta, GA Chapter.

    I am impressed!

    Large Nugget

    2 Smaller Nuggets

    Many Pickers

    Many Flakes

    A lot of Flour

I have not weighed the recovered treasure yet, but, it looks like more with that nugget sitting there...

This is by far the biggest recovered nugget that I have personally experienced...all for less than a tank and a half of diesel.

Hi David - There are plenty of pay dirt products out there on the market that I think you would be happier with. GPAA is not in the business of paydirt, but I can tell you our "training bag" @ $14.95 is a better buy than Pan-A-Can . . . not the price but what you get out of the paydirt.

    Hello all,

I just got done working my "Black Friday Special" from IPan4Gold.com.  I spent $99 and that included shipping.  The USPS took their time delivering the package even though it was sent Priority Mail.  Of course, that's NOT anyway the fault of the seller!

I'll go back through all the "waste" but after an easy panning there were two nice nuggets that totaled 0.84 grams and the total with all weighed out at 1.75 grams.

They now have a Christmas "Stocking Stuffer" bag that just made my Christmas list.  I have to say that I'm very pleased and will gladly order from them again!

    Take care all,

    Rob

I just received a couple of bags from Constellation Mining. This picture is what I panned from 1 $11.50 bag . I ordered a total of  3 bags. But this picture was just the first bag. I am gonna start working on the other 2 bags. I feel like doing an experiment and order some from each place and really get to see whose is best. I also received 20 lbs from Mother Load Gold in California but didn't try that yet. They have a buy 10lbs and get 10 lbs free. We will see how that goes. This stuff from Constellation came from Quartz Creek Alaska.

These were the remaining 2 bags of 1 lb each paydirt. It was more than I really expected, but then this is the first bags I ever bought. I figure for $11 a bag it was a decent deal.

I can attest to that!  The training bag had a lot of flake, some flour and a spec or two of float.  For the money, it is hard to beat The GPAA Tom and Perry's Training Bag!
We panned the bag and also ran it across our Martin Table and had fantastic results.  We did not miss more than one little spec with panning and got it all with the table.
As the weather gets more uncooperative, we will be ordering a full size bag or two from GPAA!

    Thanks GPAA and Todd Martin!

Todd Martin's bags are always worth it to me. I buy a couple a year so I have good gold bearing dirt to teach with and every time they do not disappoint. When we get to the final " money swirl" and the look on who ever I am teachings face when that big pile of gold appears, it is always great.

Wanted to warn about a place I ordered pay dirt from called California Mother Load Pay Dirt in Santa Rosa CA. I ordered 10 lbs from them and was also supposed to get an additional 10 lbs free since it was a holiday special. Paid $119 for it. After I placed the order, I got a message from a guy named Mike saying he was also going to put something "rare" in with the order. I received the order and panned it all out, and what I got from that left me wondering. There was very little gold, and on the web site a picture with the item showed a pan with a good bit of gold. Ok I figured, well maybe this was just a bad batch. I looked through all the waste trying to find the "rare" item and there was nothing. I send them a note asking just what it was that I was supposed to get? They replied saying I was supposed to get a "specimen" and they would resend the order. Haha...I have sent repeated messages and no answers. The pictures on the site are actually too good and I never expected to get what I saw. But it is truly false advertising on the web site and their lack of response only reinforces the scam. below is a picture from the website.

Hello all, i have been reading all kinds of stuff on this thread about buying paydirt online. I have made many purchases online and have been not so happy with 90% of them. However , i found a seller ( wich we are now friends for over two years now) who has the most honest (NON-SALTED) authentic paydirt.'He has claims in AZ,AK,CA,VA, and a couple other places. he sells unsearched cons, unsearched raw classified dirt, and will custom make any size package for ya. Every bag i have purchased has pickers to flour gold, and sometimes nice amathyst pieces. my average ROI is 72%. Try a bag of his stuff and i gaurantee you wont be disapointed!!!!!!!!. My GPAA chapter treasurer in michigan shawn willett bought a bag to test and posted a video of the cleanup. He was very impressed with the amount of gold he got. here is the link of the video just copy and paste into browser. The sellers ebay name is  (VAgoldseeker)

Just got back from picking up 1 yard of bulk material from Crisson's Gold Mine in Dahlonega, GA.

Once I get a chance to classify it down to ~20 mesh, I will run it and post some photos.

    The price was $90.00

I ran a 5 gal bucket as a test through a RDH (prospector) mini highbanker and got some flake and flour.

We finished running the pay dirt from Crisson Gold Mine over the weekend, testing out the material and used Cal Sluice GMS highbanker that we picked up and have been re-plumbing.

We were impressed. I have not weighed the material for a real ROI, but, we recovered many pickers, at least nugget and a lot of flour and flake. 95% of the material was caught in the first two riffles, with all being caught in the first four. We panned our tailings, intermittently, and did not find any lost treasure.

    Good times!

Well folks l have been buying dirt from Pay Dirt Gold Co. At sportsman warehouse 1lb. for $20.00 not good. I also joined the dirt of the month club @ $169.00 a mount in March no dirt from them as of now.
I have called, e-mailed and they just give me the run a round. This is the worst company to do any business with.

I just got through running 2 lbs of pay dirt from Martin Prospecting (Todd Martin attends many of the GPAA outings and always stands behind his product, as does Crisson, IPan4Gold.com and Gold and Gem Grubbin in Cleveland, GA).

This is the 2nd large bag I have gotten from Martin and am always pleased. Always re-run your tailings from "bought" bags across a Martin or Miller table or pan under a large lighted magnifier (cheap from Harbor Freight) and you will find what your quick/careful panning may have lost.

My short list of suppliers for my dirt:
    Crisson
    Martin
    IPan4Gold.com
    Gold and Gem Grubbin

and of Course Tom and Perry's Dirt Bags...some of those bags have very course gold!
......I cannot afford Felix's Bags or I would likely include them as I have heard great things

I just started a business selling a gold panning kit with pay dirt included. It has 1.5 lbs of unchecked, 1/2" classified Arizona paydirt, 1.5 lbs of unchecked, unclassified Alaska pay dirt, and blue sand (used to teach panning technique) There might be a little gold in the pay dirt, but I wouldn't expect to much. I add 1/2 gram of gold to every bag (about 60-65 small flakes), and in every 10th bag I've added an additional 4 grams of gold nuggets (about 8-9 nuggets). As an introductory special, I've added a surprise gift (not gold) into every other bag with MSRP values between $25 and $250. My kits can be found on E-BAY (search for Blue Heron Gold Panning Kit), and on ETSY (Etsy has pay dirt listed without the panning kit) Blue Heron Pay Dirt is $100 for a 3.5 lb bag, or $125 included with the gold panning kit. you have a 1 in 10 chance of getting a bag with 4.5 grams of gold (about $200 worth), and a 50/50 chance of getting a surprise gift. You can find me on Facebook as Charles Sawyer or Blue Heron Prospecting. There are plenty of other pay dirts available online, some are better than others. I'd watch out for anyone that say they guarantee gold, but won't say how much gold they add. Also pay attention to the level of classification, because if the material is classified down to a number 8 mesh, you can be sure you won't find anything bigger than an 8 mesh flake. on the other hand, unclassified material probably contains larger gravels which are essentially dead weight, but unclassified pay dirt may also contain large nuggets, so it can be worth the trade off. Also keep in mind that unchecked material only has the potential to have gold in the material, but that doesn't mean it actually will. Most pay dirt companies "salt" the pay dirt. I don't like that term, because it refers to a deceptive practice where prospectors added gold to samples to obtain higher assay values on their gold claims. That isn't what we are doing, but the term "salting" has become associated with pay dirt sellers because we do add gold to the material. I add gold to my pay dirt because I want every customer to experience the thrill of finding gold in their pan. I am not trying to deceive anyone, and I am very open about how much gold I add to my material. Call it "salting" if you want, I just call it satisfying my customers. I hope my information helps you find what you are looking for. I'd love to have you try some Blue Heron Pay Dirt, and get some feedback, but take a good look at all the other options available. I've personally tried material from Crisson Gold Mine in Dallonega, Ga. and Felix Pay Dirt from Alaska, I found gold in both, but I liked the Crisson material a little better. The gold was coarser, and I even found a specimen (gold in a quartz matrix) in the Crisson material.

    Michael,

This begs the question... You say remove the magnetic black sand prior to processing. I just did that with 4 lbs. of paydirt I bough off of Amazon. I kept it and intend to run it across my Miller Table when it arrives. I have to wonder how much fine gold (if any) might be stuck to the black sand? I know gold is not magnetic but fine flour gold is notorious for being easy to lose...

    Thanks!

When removing black sand when wet always keep it as it will hold gold 0I only do mine dry as the gold will not hold to dry materiel as easy.

Our Chapter recently used some of our points to get cans of cons from GPAA, we were surprised at the quality.

We use these materials to teach kids to pan at rock and gem shows and the stuff in the cans was easy to find and pan through quickly, it made it easy to send each kid home with some gold.

I also purchased concentrates from Marvin's Gold Concentrates recently to benefit a camp for kids with cancer called Camp Wapiyapi. He worked with me and made up individually packed bags of nice cons with gold that make it really easy for even a beginner to work with. Having dealt with other companies in the past I will go to Marvin's before I go anywhere else for cons again.

It really is a valuable teaching aid when you know that there is gold in the sample. It can really help with panning and testing other recovery techniques before going out into the field. So, I don't begrudge them making some money off of it. The best sellers at least give you some decent color. I know of one place that gives about 80% return on a pretty regular basis. I think that's fair considering labor and packaging; they don't sell online though.

I'd like to be able to post photos of my pans when I do pan commercial paydirt but am no quite sure how to tack a photo onto a post off of my cellphone? I did e-mail the two pics I took of the Yuba River paydirt so I could pick them up off of the laptop. It'd be convenient to be able to add them directly from the Android. Any hints please?

    Cheers!

Yeah the Image Manager doesn't load on Android phones using Chrome .. I even tried the browser option "Request desktop site", no luck.

And to stay on topic (Buying Gold) .. I've bought many bags of paydirt over the years. Started with the Amazon stuff (Lyra), Gold Rush, and numerous eBay auctions.  I've come to the conclusion my top 4 are:

Dirt Hogg (Canada) - 1 out of 5 bags will be bonus with 50% more gold, and occasionally a lot more
    http://www.dirthoggpaydirt.com/

Jimbo's Paydirt (Arizona) - excellent gold return, custom paydirt options
    https://www.jimbosgold.com/

Gold Adventures LLC (Colorado) - High percentage of gold, very difficult to pan completely, for improving advanced panning technique
    http://www.goldadventures...z/gold_cons_for_sale

Goldgetters (North Carolina) - Nice chunky, clean, easy to pan.

I got some of the Gold Hog cons. The gemstone bonus is nice. Makes for pretty piles on the porch.

Not yet, I just received my order this morning. Packaging is tight and no spillage what so-ever.   I ordered 3 different ones, and will report back, probably later this weekend after I get done prospecting in the local creeks.

I've bought a pound of Lyra's Alaska and 1/4 of Yuba river off of Amazon. Lyra's was a let down, but the Yuba surprised me. They each produced about the same amount of gold, but the Yuba had 3 really nice pickers.

    Hi Jonathan Sever

I just wanted to mention that when I ordered multiple bags from vagoldseeker2014 half a year and 2 years ago I didn't receive what you claim to have gotten, 50 to 75% ROI. He may have stepped up his game the last few months but, if you say so yourself I will purchase another bag to see if it complies with your statement, I'm open minded! I do know that the largest price paydirt bag that he sells is $49 and it's definitely not 1 gram in gold. Gold by the ounce right now is $1,317.80 and for $49 you will get AT LEAST 1 gram of gold from us at lynchmining.com + real gems. Most of our customers have reported on "average" 1.3 grams of gold when we were selling it at $42 a bag, Gizmo's paydirt that is.

We have almost completely stopped selling paydirt on ebay due to the magnitude of ridiculous fees as we pay over $5000+ to ebay in fees each month + we sell more bags via our Website than any other online marketplace. To be honest there is no point for us to sell on ebay anymore... We will also be at almost every GPPA Gold Show in 2017.

You will be able to find us in the GPPA Gold Prospectors Magazine as well as the Pick & Shovel newspaper in the next coming issues.

If you have any questions please let us know and you can email us at info@lynchmining.com and one of us will respond within 24 hours.

I would also like to ask, I see in your photo your in a prospecting shop. Do you work there or just a customer? We would be open to setting up a paydirt deal or a consignment deal if authorized. You can also reach us at 877 865 7449.

While I am not against advertising what you have for sale, there is a page for that.  This thread was for discussion of WHERE to purchase.  You have managed to plaster most of the site with your ads peddling your material.  I think enough is enough.

Seconded on the Yuba dirt! I had good results too. Will post pics if I ever get around to posting from the laptop.

Lyra was a bit of a disappointment, but you do get what you pay for. It's $17.00 per lb. on Amazon but only $11.00 per lb. off their website, so if you get $10.00 or less worth of gold, that's only to be expected. There is more expensive paydirt available, much of it with a 1 gram guarantee. I'll be going with those in the future...

Congrats Rhett, but beware, there is some little monster out there saying "MY PRECIOUS"

My goal for this year is to have collected enough gold to hand make our wedding rings from the pure gold we extracted from the ground, but also hopefully enough to do a lot more. We have rings but they are the diluted 14k making, I want real gold that we pulled out of the ground together, they are OUR rings of raw gold.

Anything much over 14K will be so soft they would not be viable in day to day wear.  I constantly lightly bend my 10K at work.

But, I have to admit, that is a good way to get the future better half to (wo)man the shovel

Arthur you are right that it is a great motivator but I beg to differ on the softness. Maybe if you wear a thin ring it will be soft, but with a thick and wide band it is more then enough to stay true to it's shape and I would like to see a quarter ounce on my wife's finger, she can show it off when she is not slapping my head with it.

Adding my Congrats to Rhett.  Any woman would be foolish to turn him down with a rock like that! Lol!

Anyway, if I recall what I have read correctly, isn't the average "wild" gold we pan about 22k? If the ring band is thick enough, that should hold up just fine. Might need the occasional polish if treated roughly at all, but most fine gold jewelry I've seen in and from India does not seem to break down easily. I'm planning on using the nuggets as is for jewelry making. Raw nugget decoration has a charm all it's own...

LOL, you are selling a 49$ bag and you guarantee 1 gram in a 49$ bag.  you must get free labor , free machines , free equipment , and free fuel to have a cost ratio like that. Or you just get free paydirt and sell it. come on man , who is gonna beleive that you sell paydirt for no or very little profit. also..... i see you sell 5 pound bags for 35.00$ and no guarantee of gold amount , here is the quote from your site on those 5lb. bags " each bag will contain gold garaunteed. The amount of gold will vary."  so you sell no differently than those on ebay or where ever. besides you can get 8lbs. for 35.00$ from Vagoldseeker and he will give you the same gaurantee. And if you become a regular buyer like myself he will start adding really nice gems , i have alot of amythest , ruby, and quartz from him.  And im sure that if he wanted to he could salt a bag with rich gold and sell if for the going price of gold as you are. so , see./.......... you are really no different of a seller. BLAST!!

    Mary,

This is the 1lb pound Gizmo bag.  I was very impressed with it.  I ran a second bag and got the almost exactly the same visual amount of gold.  I have not dried and weighed it.  I will order again.  In addition to gold, we found peridot, a really nice kidney bean sized deep purple amethyst, an emerald with decent clarity and several pea sized peridot of good clarity.

Lynch Mining put together a very nice bag for the money...especially so with the discount they offered to GPAA for Independence Day

Rhett may have ad-bombed the site, but, anyone who took advantage of the offer likely were impressed and, in my opinion, no false advertising there!

Ipan4gold.com  great bags with many flakes some gram+ nuggets

Crissongoldmine.com  never been skunked and have had some really nice pickers and nuggets from the least expensive bags

Gold-n-Gem Grubbin  great bag for the money

Thermal City Gold Mine  a fantastic bag, many gems and chunky gold

Lucky Strike  similar to Thermal City, but, a few dollars more per bag

Martin Prospecting  inexpensive and a good ROI

Heritage Gold Mine Park  inexpensive, with flake, flour and the occasional picker

Lynchmining.com  impressive returns and good sized gold, see pick on previous page, with some nice gems

I have a hard time spending more than $50-60 on a bag of dirt, but, anyone of the vendors mentioned above have left me feeling like I got my money's worth.

If you can, label individual vials from each supplier you use and track the visual amount and weight of gold that you recover over time to understand where YOU feel best spending money on a bag of dirt.

Thanks Brad!  Will likely purchase then from both sources even tho' Lynch has done a bit of overkill with ad-bombing... It's annoying. I like the idea of sending my sister some of the Lynch cons as both she and I make wire work jewelry so the stones would come in handy once they were tumbled shiny. I also want to order from Goldadventures as he sells custom bags for a very reasonable price.  I've seen good things about Gold Hogs gemstone bag as well.

    Appreciate the input!

    Cheers,

    Mary

    Great thread!

There are a few places listed here I've yet to check out, so THANKS! I like to feel somewhat well rounded when it comes to reviewing.

For my own personal review - my TOP pick for pay dirt is MDV over at Ipan4gold.com.

I'm in Missouri, That state containing no gold right? So I'm kinda stuck with my options - with that, I to have tried many places,

Amazon, Yuba, decent for the price

Gold rush pay dirt - yeah, the show. This is a team working with Parker. The idea is awesome, ( if you like Parker and Gold rush ) but the ROI is horrible. I wont dis them anymore than that as They HAVE produced some pretty amazing things for me, ( owner of a John Schnable and Parker Schnable autograph. How cool is that? )

GoldHog, awesome stuff, the gems do rock! more importantly, his Goldhog mats just ROCK at picking up the fine gold through my sluice. The guy is also just a serious wealth of information.

Crissom mine, again, really great stuff here, the gem backs are LOADED with kick butt rocks and gems. the gold is chunky GA gold at its finest.

Jimbo's Gold, ( won a bag from goldprospectorspace.com ( really great site with amazing people ) was extremely impressed with the bag I got, I may at some point revisit this guy.

point being, I've tried quite a few. Canada, Alaska ( Eureka ) Colorado, Arizona, GA ) They all have good points, some way better than others..

but hands down, I will, and always will remain a faithful customer to Ipan4gold.com.

He has, without a doubt, never sold me a light bag of cons. The ROI has always been tops and the gold itself, chunky chunky and clunky!

( When my mom and mom in law ask me what I want for birthday and christmas - I send them this link! Ipan4gold.com )

I think besides the fact his pay dirt pays off ( big time ), is that the guy has been THE most personable guy in this business I've ever met. Truly a class act.

For any sellers out there looking to succeed in this business. This is a guy to mirror yourself to..

so yeah, That's my story - I'm stickin to it..

I've tried quite a few, only had a few that were really disappointments..

Ipan4gold.com has never. ever. been one of them.

I've bought several bags of pay dirt. I have found that they are selling for about $100 per gram. Sometimes more. good luck. It has been fun every time. Fantastic practice , but it's nothing like the real thing.

Honestly, just buy a gram of Gold from a top seller on E-bay, dump it in a pan with your local gravel, pan it out & avoid paying an extra $20 for nothing. I only bought pay dirt when they advertised a big nugget in every tenth bag or whatever. But the gamble never pays off...For me anyway.

Adam has the best advice, but I've bought 12 times and found out that the different pay dirt took different ways to extract the gold & the gold seemed different also. I could have just poured the gold back in for practice, but the gambler in me really likes seeing the different types of gold and I've gotten 6 nuggets. One  2.6 gram & several pickers & flour. I'm in the Felix   4 lb jackpot bucket now & one of them has a 50 gram nugget in it .That would make it all worth while. I'm as green as they come.In Texas looking forward to experiencing the whole picture and maybe becoming an old salt one day.

Mary .. I 100% recommend Jimbo's Gold in Arizona, you will be SO SO pleased.

I think the Gizmo bag was a standard 1lb size, and mine contained maybe a dozen tiny (1/8" and less) polished peridot. I read somebody else got peridot with theirs. About same results as Brad's above. Nice gold. Their gold/black reserve bags were good as well, but contain extreme black sand, so panning takes time. Not much fly poop or under -100 mesh. Pretty consistant flakes besides the occasional pickers.

Also, I just started panning my $325 nugget (1gal paint can of concentrates + nuggets) from Crisson Gold Mine I picked when were at the Loud Mine Outing in September, and loving it .. tons of .2 to .6 gram size nuggets along with flakes in every pan (doing about 1/4" cup at a time). It's expensive for sure, but easy blond sand (it's crushed ore from their mine) to pan, and every time I pull a nugget out of the pan, I just giggle and jump for joy. Even if I don't recover $325 in gold, I'm getting way more in joy and fun. I bought it for my 50th birthday gift to myself (in addition to everything else I bought this year including my LDMA membership). I hope to post results somewhere when I finish the entire can. They have an online store too at: http://www.crissongoldmin...m/gold-concentrates/

That's cool Ed, I might try them. That $325 bucket sounds like fun also. Have you been to Italian Bar with your LDMA? I might try that, I never used the '3 day pass' but we prospected the public GPAA areas next to the camp. It was awesome.

The Crisson Gold Mine $325 nugget bucket ended up with a total of 4.397 grams of gold with one of the nuggets over 1gram.   Either way was a ton of fun to pan out.   Win some , lose some.

Cool Ed, are those hard rock nuggets? They look like Placer nuggets. I Thought the Crisson bucket of crushed ore would be 50 or 100 mesh Gold? When I hard rock sample, I always crush the ore to tiny 50 mesh Gold, then Bluebowl it all.

    IPAN4GOLD.com

    &

    Crissongoldmine.com

Both in Georgia and both owned and operated by great people!

I'm not sure where the nuggets came from in the 325.00 nugget bucket, but they are definitely added. They have a 165 bucket without the nuggets that is just 75 gallons of the crushed hardrock material processed and concentrated to 1 gallon. My guess is the use the same 165 (75gal material cons) and add a few grams worth of nuggets. I definitely didn't hit the jackpot like others I had heard, but I loved panning the material, very little black sands, mostly blond (crushed rock), so it panned very easily and quickly.

I have purchased a fair amount of paydirt over the last few years.

My favorites are Dirt Hogg and Goldstrike Adventures

I also like Crisson a lot and have seen their stamp mill in operation here in Georgia.

I know the owners of these three operations and have a good relationship with them. I trust them to provide a good value for my money.

In my experience, every bag of paydirt is different, and yields will vary from bag to bag, even from the same source.

Dirt Hogg offers "Bonus" bags which completely skew the "value" equation, but one thing is certain, anyone thinking they are going to consistently get an amount of gold that is worth more than what they paid for, is mistaken.

That being said, if I got a one ounce nugget from a paydirt seller, I would probably keep buying from that supplier for a long time, hoping to get more...

Regardless, I learn a lot about the characteristics of gold and different kinds of paydirt by purchasing paydirt from different suppliers...it's all part of become a better gold miner.

I'm expecting a delivery for the holidays from Eureka Gold Sands .. will let folks know. Gino claims to be one of the original online paydirt companies that started it all, so we shall see how I do. I'm expecting about a 50% return to be honest tho. Nobody is going to sell paydirt to lose money. That'd just be crazy.

Jakes Mining Equipment.com has $10.00, $15.00, $30.00 and $60.00 bags. Gold comes from Northern Nevada, the Osceola mining area.

Gold hog will be stopping their pay dirt bags soon. I would pick up one or two. They are true paydirt bags, salted with gems but not gold, just dredge concentrates. Great practice and a good return on the money.

Lynch is located in AZ, hope its here before Christmas it was gift.

    WARNING!

Lynch Mining ran a sale this year. Sent to me a bag that had 0 gold. was supposed to contain minimum of 1 gram.

I notified them and the CEO of Lynch mining emailed me to infer I was a liar and they photograph all bags. he stated they would follow up on the issue. after emailing again, no response.

I also received the bag unlabeled.

Did I mention it is taking more than two weeks to receive anything? the paydirt before sale is significantly different than what they are selling now..

I have never bought pay dirt. I have yet to hear anybody say they found more gold then what they paid for it. What is the big draw? I saw Kleshguitars pay almost $1000 for pay dirt only to find around $500 worth. Why take such a loss. $500 is a lot of gas and camping money...lol Plus you miss out on the hunt. So, I ask again... what is the big draw?

A disclaimer...I sell gold paydirt..but I also buy gold paydirt, and always will.

To those who think we're fools for buying paydirt, consider this:

Not ALL of us have access to gold bearing ground along with all the legal permissions to dig for it - there is very little public land East of the Mississippi.

Likewise not ALL of us possess the financial and other resources necessary to go prospecting any time they want.

Lastly, we are envious of everyone who still has the strength, stamina, and other other physical attributes needed to dig, tote, and handle multiple buckets of paydirt and equipment for even a few hours a day.

FOR THE REST OF US, HOWEVER, who possess none of these things, the only viable option we have is TO PURCHASE GOLD PAYDIRT.

If possessing gold is all that matters, then it can be purchased much cheaper than buying gold paydirt...bullion bars and coins are readily available...but have you noticed, the smaller the gold bar, the larger premium the you'll have to pay!

But here's the thing which some folks obviously don't get, those of us who sell gold paydirt aren't just selling the gold, we're selling the THRILL OF DISCOVERY, that EUREKA! moment that drives gold fever...and that experience is PRICELESS.

To me, there are few things more exciting than seeing gold magically appear in the bottom of a gold pan. We love it.
I started out gold panning at the Crisson Gold mine and eventually got a partner and we started our own "mining operation.
We have pursued gold recovery operations for over three years.

The whole time, THOUGH, I have purchased gold paydirt. I have learned to pan all kinds of gold and all kinds of material.
As I said before, I have never stopped purchasing gold paydirt and probably never will.

I sell gold paydirt because I love helping others have the same kind of fun and excitement I get when see the gold show up in the bottom of my pan...that's what it's all about for me and I love helping others have that same experience.

Where should you buy gold paydirt? Wherever you can get a quality product, at a good price, with excellent, reliable customer service.

    Thomas,

I don't think you will ever find a place that gives you more gold than what you paid for. As a seller you won't make any money.

I will buy pay dirt this time of year when the fever sets in and creeks are frozen. Constellation Mining Company sells gold that does not cost an arm and a leg. Got some for X-mass.  Very good service every time I buy from them. I can't fly to Alaska for less than fifty dollars. Heck I can't even park at the airport for that much. Even around here when I go prospecting I don't come home with that much gold yet  [Lots of flour gold here and small flakes].  Going out prospecting in the fresh air and quiet is more fun than than panning a bag though.

When I buy pay dirt I always count on around 60% ROI. Or a little better. I've read where some people were mad they didn't get 100% return.
They must not realize the vendor has to make a little money on what he sells or he wouldn't be in business too long!
That said, I've had good luck with Felix and with Eureka Joes.

I just started and I received a "PayDay" dirt bag from GPAA when I signed up. I found small amounts of gold, but remember to pan the dirt two to three times if your new because I found traces each time and the gold became finer each time. Great start so far, so I planned a trip this Oct to Stanton AZ for a mining trip. We will see if this produces anything. I am not looking to get rich, but want to find enough to keep me going back. May have to invest in a Sluice. Good luck with your daughter!

To Michael Valdez: Great response!!! You hit it on the head perfectly. Exactly why I am going to Stanton AZ to actually extract gold from the ground and see it in the bottom of my pan. I extracted gold from discarded computers, but want to see it in its raw and natural state. Can't wait.

I am interested in obtaining a bag of "PayDirt" from you, what would be the cost?

roaring camp in California sells DIRT OF THE MONTH bags that are 13-15 pounds with really nice gold for 50.00 a bag. they are my favorite paydirt.
they also sell small bags for 10.00. I buy these so when I take a newbie out for the first time and IF FOR ANY REASON I DO NOT FIND IT ON MY OWN I spike their pan so they get theirs no matter what. of course no one is getting rich but everyone likes to take home some color after digging all day. always smiling faces when they see the nice gold.
Roaring camp is generous on the gold.

Living in eastern Kansas, I get very little chance for "weekend" panning trips, but I can still stay in the game for less than the price of gas to get to a likely spot. I have purchased 6 1-lb bags from Constellation Mining Co., and am very pleased. They sell bags for $11/lb, but don't accept credit cards, so you must use PayPal or personal check. If you mail a check, they hold shipment till it clears the bank, so it takes about 2 weeks from the time you order online till you receive it. So far, from the 6 lbs of dirt I purchased, I've recovered exactly 1 dwt (1.55 g/.05 ozt - approx. $75), so about even, if I include shipping from Alaska. I have only recovered the larger stuff for now - many of the flakes I picked out of my 20-mesh classifier. I can still see fines in my leftovers, so will finish pan/Miller Table those on the cold winter weekends coming up...I need to practice getting the little stuff.

I encourage y'all to support Constellation Mining by purchasing paydirt from them.
I have found them to be reliable and honest in all my dealings with them.
They are a small family-owned mining operation and face all the challenges of running a modern day mining operation just like the big boys on TV.

    My thoughts on paydirt...

    1. Never buy without a fully disclosed guarantee of minimum quantity (unless you really like to gamble or money means nothing to you). I challenge anyone to point out someone who has gotten the "1 in 20 bonus bag containing 5 extra grams" nonsense.

    2. Check the price plus shipping, versus quantity versus spot price. Build a list of companies, then choose an ROI you can be happy with. And keep in mind that typical placer gold averages somewhere between 18K and 20K. Example: If the current spot is $1468.10, then 1 gram will have a value of somewhere between $35.40 and $39.33. If that 1 gram bag of paydirt is going to cost $100.00, your ROI will be between 35% and 39%. Paydirt companies vary wildly from 15% to over 75%. It's all fun to pan, but at least be smart about it and get the best value for your hard earned cash.

    3. Watch/read lots of reviews on the companies out there. There are shams o' plenty. Ignore reviews that are obviously "paid" or "sponsored". One of the worst sellers is on Amazon. 90% of amazon's listings are the same guy with multiple names, who "buys" ratings by offering free paydirt for a "5" rating and good review. His ROI's are terrible to start with. I recommend "Klesh Guitars" (Shane Klesh) "Prospecting At Home" review videos. He never buys paydirt when the seller knows its going to him. He will use friends to do the ordering, then review it. He is also brutally honest in his reviews.

    4. When thinking about value, there are companies that will include things like gems, silver coins, donations to charity, and other swag. If you dig that kind of thing, great, go for it! If not, don't get lured into a paydirt because you get a solid silver half dollar with the bag, that still won't bring the ROI up to your liking.

    5. Consider this option... Find a reputable placer gold seller. Buy however many grams you want, of flakes, pickers, nuggets or a mix. Get a shovel of dirt from your back yard and toss the gold into it. Shake well. Pan it out and have a great time. This is no risk, you know exactly what you are getting, and is no different than buying dirt from the seller's back yard or local stream. When i'm teaching someone how to pan, i put flakes from my own vials into the dirt so they get the real experience for free.

    6. If you are new to this whole gold thing, stay away from paydirt with heavy black sands and/or lots of flour gold. Give your panning skills a chance to mature before you try the pain in the butt stuff :)

    7. Do you want a couple nuggets to show up when you are swirling, or do you want to see some flakes in each pan? Decide ahead of time. Having a .5 g nugget show up and only a few flakes can be a mental downer, if you really want to do some panning. Or dealing with flakes and flour might be annoying if you really prefer a couple pickers or nuggets. Think about it first and order accordingly. Or, refer to number 5 above.

    8. Do you want to classify or dump it in the pan and go? Read what you are going to get first and decide if it is what you want. If you are paying the shipping, stay away from bags that include boulders and cobbles. They do nothing for your enjoyment but may incur unnecessary shipping charges.

Personally, I have found Toms, Lynch, and GoldBay to at least be honest and contain what they say. You should read the descriptions for yourself to determine if you like it. Here is a comparison of some 1 gram minimum guarantee bags based on today's price and gold price (at 18K). This EXCLUDES shipping costs, which could lower the ROI. Note: Buying more than a gram will *sometimes* increase your ROI, but not always. Buyer beware.

Toms: "One Grammer". "Approximately 1 out of every 10 gets a 25% bonus" (blah blah blah). Possible garnets or added stones.
    Price=$69.99 ROI=50.59%

Lynch: "Supremo Gold and Gems". "The gems that you may find in all of the Gizmos paydirts are rough Peridot, Rubies, Sapphires, Turquoise, and even Apache Tears". Sounds like the item below is a better price than this one on just the gold (if you like gem bits, ignore me)
    Price=$77.00 ROI=45.98%
To buy 1 gram of raw placer flakes is $56.50 (or roughly 159% of todays spot price)

Lynch: "Black Label Paydirt". 98% magnetic black sand (oooh, sounds like fun. not. lol). "loyal customers report back to us on a weekly basis receiving anywhere from 1.5 grams to even 2 + grams, just from one jar!" (believe that if you wish. or not)
    Price: $67.60 ROI=52.38%

GoldBay: "3# Paydirt 1 gram". No claims of gems or other games.
    Price=$53.95 ROI=65.6%
To add 1 gram to the bag is $51.00 (or roughly 144% of todays spot price)

    Hope this helps a little.

I like Goldbay because you can purchase dirt with the guaranteed amount of gold in grams.
It’s really good for beginners because you can check to see if you got it all.
You also can buy dirt with different size flakes or small

    Be advised, I sell Paydirt.

    My thoughts on paydirt...

    1. The only time the purity of the gold recovered from purchased paydirt is relevant is when you are going to sell your gold to a refiner.
They will assay your gold and deduct the % that is not pure. Then they will generally take another 2% off for melt loss.
You'd be better off selling to a paydirt seller. You'll usually get more for it than from a refiner.

    2. Most of us who buy paydirt don't buy it for the ROI, we buy it for the thrill of discovery, the excitement of seeing gold show up in the pan.
Does price make a difference? Of course, but as you said, look for a guaranteed minimum and go from there.

    3. The more popular paydirt reviewers have all gotten on the bandwagon that it's all about ROI. If it is, why are you buying paydirt in the first place?
Why not just buy bullion and be done with it?

    4. Some paydirt sellers take a lot of pride in offering an excellent product which includes not just the gold and the dirt, but also excellent packaging, a little swag, and even a personal note of thanks. If you're doing business with someone who only cares about getting your money, then don't have any allusions about excellent customer service...caveat emptor. In fact, it is my contention that the paydirt supplier who demonstrates integrity, good value, and excellence in execution possesses a competitive advantage over all the shady characters in the marketplace today. It works for me.

    5. To me, it is not very satisfying or fun to pan "paydirt' you have made up yourself by adding your own gold or lead shot to dirt out of your own backyard. Yep, it's cheaper, but so what...it's boring.

    6. I agree there are paid reviews out there, which I don't trust, and I especially don't trust some who seem more like sponsors of a particularly large paydirt seller. Just count how many times the same supplier shows up in their list of reviews. Klesh usually only reviews once I think.

    7. USPS Flat Rate box prices are fixed..."flat rate" - so cobbles and rocks in the dirt don't cost any additional shipping charges.

    8. Double check your math. $51 is not 144% of $47.37...it's 107%...and nobody uses the correct ROI formula. A $100 bag of dirt yielding $75 in gold yields a negative ROI of -25%, not 75%. Google the ROI formula.

    9. I also have a disdain for "Razzes" and other forms of gambling. Just not for me. I am willing to pay for value.

    10. Never buy gold paydirt as in investment, it's for entertainment only...it just happens to leave you with something of value. You will rarely get gold worth more than you paid for it.

    11. I agree with comments about the Amazon seller.

    12. I do like Klesh reviews, but I would urge him to drop the purity calculations.

    13. When you show your gold to someone and the first thing they ask is "how much is it worth?" ... Don't bother trying to explain it to them...they don't get it. :-)

Thank you for the great reply! For the most part, I definitely agree with you. Many of my statements included things like "if thats your thing, great". This is because some people actually like the "1 in 5 bags gets 25% more" (or whatever) lottery bag stuff. Some think its super awesome to get a little silver coin with their paydirt. Everyone is different, but we all dig seeing that gold show up. Its definitely a "buyer beware" thing.

I've personally bought paydirt for a couple reasons. I refine most of my gold (with metal detecting finds and other jewelry) into small ingots, and rarely have small placer on hand. When my son wanted to learn, I needed some dirt to play in the garage with him. Same thing when my friends have wanted to try it. When the weather sucks or work is killing me, the creeks and hills might not be an option. I really do need to remember keep more raw stuff on hand. One time i needed some real pain in the ass baby-fly-poop with black sand for a club function. I was able to order a couple bags of "Make this as painful as possible" paydirt. It was an awesome teaching day :)

The whole thing boils down to (1) buying from someone with integrity and honesty and (2) getting the most value for your dollar. Beyond that, its a personal preference as to how to spend your discretionary dollar. Even the scam artist amazon seller will get you a couple tiny flakes in the pan, but those that do their homework, can get much more satisfaction for the same price. I would hope nobody however, buys paydirt expecting a gain or positive ROI (yes, that's a grossly incorrect term, improperly used most of the time).

Klesh seams like a good guy with integrity. But with the youtubers, something to always remember is most of them monetize their videos and do the patreon (or similar) donation thing. A few of them are simply there to sell you on products or services. There's absolutely nothing wrong with any of that, but when revenues are at stake, it can sometimes steer video content. If you know this ahead of time, its easier to read [view] between the lines for either educational or entertainment value.

I tried to buy 2 $100 GPAA bags for Christmas. A special deal. After they were delivered to someone 3 states away, I didn't have too high hopes of getting them so I cancelled and went with a different vendor. So much for GPAA merchandising.

IMO don't buy from bourbon Bob's. I bought 12 lbs of paydirt that was supposedly loaded with gold. I found 8 tiny pieces! I ran it again with my brother who has decades of experience and still nothing. I tried contacting them but they just said to do it again and recover all the gold I missed. I didn't miss any and they suck!

Thanks to anyone who mentioned my company Goldbay.

YES I am a paydirt seller and I will chime in.

I have been selling paydirt since 1999, I own a hard rock mine in CA and finance 3 other mines in Idaho and Alaska.

I have the inside front cover full page ad for the next year in Gold Prospector magazine.

I will be at EVERY single GPAA show this year with a major booth.

I am know for 2 things in regards to paydirt, #1) PAYDIRT FOR LESS THAN SPOT #2) 100% money back guarantee for ANY reason (even after you pan it)

I WILL NEVER tell you I am the best (Thats self serving and opinionated), however I will tell you you have NOTHING to lose, if you are NOT happy simply let me know, I will send you a return mailing label and when i get the gold back that you panned I will refund you 100% of your purchase price including shipping. That has in fact happened 4 times since 1999 and I do not feel a compelling need to get to #5 :-)

If you have any questions text me on my cell 509-465-3229, or join my facebook group :-) (Link is in my profile)

Thanks everyone who mentioned Goldbay in their reply to this message thread!

    Goldbay is awesome!

I'll add that every time i've bought from him, it has been very high purity (I refine all my gold to .999, then pour ingots). It has also been very low in impurities (it's not full of rocks, quarts bits, etc). He's either got great sources or i've been very lucky :)

When I get socked in during the winter or foul weather, I have bought pay dirt from several sources. Years ago I bought most from the Nugget Man and his pay dirt always gave you a bang for your buck. Since his demise I tried a few others but nothing comes close to the Crisson Gold Mine in Dahlonega, Ga. It is a family owned and run business, (Tony, Tammy, and daughter Brianna). They have all season panning areas that are closed up to foul weather and cater to families and kids and large tours as well as the long prospector. You can buy screenings from straight from the pit to concentrates of that are 75 gallon buckets concentrated down to one gallon of supper good fines and would make the old timers come out of the grave. Any time of the year you can order whatever your taste require and they will ship it to your address. This is a place where they care about the new prospector as well as us old timers. It is a wonderful thing to see young people being infected by the gold bug. It is the future of the freedom to the single person to recreational use of the lands to have places to prospect that our government can't make public lands off limits to "We the People".

Placer gold is very affordable on eBay ..and if you leave a note after purchase for the seller to throw it all in a small bag of Sandy dirt you'll be assured there is no less than what you paid for.. 3 grams Alaska placer for $150 eBay unsure of seller but there are hundreds of sellers

Wow, if your address was right, GPAA didn’t do that, the delivery service did. Are you really blaming GPAA for delivery error? WOW....sorry. BTW, their dirt is really good, I got 40-50 pieces in a small bag, sorry you missed out. You ought to give them another shot.

I will chime in also as a fan of Roaring Camp Mining Co. Over the last few years, I've bought several of their "big" bags of dirt at various shows where they have a booth, and have used it to practice my panning. I've pulled quite a bit of gold out of each bag, though I've never weighed it. I have never bought it with the intention of getting a return on my investment. I buy it for the opportunity to see what's in it and have some fun panning it. I don't recall any pan that didn't have at least several flakes of gold in it.

Am I getting my money's worth? In my opinion, absolutely. Am I getting my money's worth of gold in each bag? I seriously doubt it, but that's not why I bought it.
As I mentioned above, I bought it for the fun of panning it, not for the value of the gold in each bag.

I’ve bought a lot of paydirts from different companies, Miller prospecting on YouTube gives good recommendations of some , I personally have bought vulture paydirt, Belmont, from Lynch mining and they are worth every penny, they are challenging, I’ve also bought Leadville, Toms gold paydirt they are good for the buck , if you want a challenge get kenai black sand challenge, there’s some more that I’ve bought that had a gram plus of gold with a pound of magnetite which is a nightmare, but fun ...

We have bought a dozen + Tom and Perry.s Gold Bags over time and we feel they are a Bargain. Always found Gold and, most often 2-5 Grams. Their bags are easily panned and great for Practice. We always use the two Pan method and yes we have Bought bags at Outings and such from California, N Carolina, Arizona, Georgia and even a few Felix bags (High price) . best buy a couple bags at a GPPA or LDMA Outing because, they sell a better bag there to get you to buy more from them. You can also look on Ebay and be cautious. Most want you to become a customer, but we have gotten crappy 1 gram bags before. Remember that, Club Members are 95% honest and can be kicked out if they Misadvertize or mislead you.. Hope this helps.

I recently bought some pay dirt on Ebay. This guy sells it as 10LB unsearched concentrates (came in 2 5lb ziplock bags) and he is out of SD. I typed in the search words " paydirt gold nugget" Then just look for a picture of a blue bowl with gold in it...….should have the seller listed as sd-redneck. It costs $39.99. I used an old wire mesh spaghetti strainer to classify it down more and I was completely surprised by the amount of pickers and flakes I found. I bought it to practice my panning skills (green horn here too) as I am planning to go somewhere to pan for gold in the near future and want to be ready.

I bought the same paydirt from the same guy on ebay 3 mo this ago. I can tell you I was blown away by the amount of gold I even questioned if it was real gold and had to look at it under a jeweler's loop because it's very low grade it does not shine very much it looks dirty but it is truly in fact gold he is extremely generous I was totally shocked when I saw the amount I got as well. That does not usually happen to me when I have bought on ebay before.

Goldbay.com blows every other company out of the pan with the highest ROI’s in the industry.

I have literally tried almost every company selling paydirt online. Only ones I haven’t tried have a track record of bad ROI. I even tried several eBay sellers. None of them have 80+% ROI consistently.

I recently purchased 6 bags of the 1/2 Gram Camo paydirt from Dave using the discount code sent out in the email from GPAA. On the day I checked out I had a 99.996% ROI including shipping.

Tell me another place where you can find a 99.996% ROI and a guy who constantly supports the GPAA/LDMA like Dave does and I’ll try their paydirt.

Wanna see an honest review of Paydirts? Youtube Miller Prospecting he buys them all and gives the best reviews I’ve ever seen. Dillon uses ghost buyers so the companies don’t know he is buying them so he gets the every day bag not a salted bag for a bogus review.

Your millage may vary, these are my results after spending every Arizona summer over the last 10 years mailbox mining to get my fix when it’s too hot to dig!

I have been panning vendor pay dirt for a few years now and recently had the absolute worst experience with Yellowstone Paydirt.
A month ago, I purchased 2 - 5lb bags of different claim pay dirt and was EXTREMELY dissapointed. The ROI was absolutely horrible in comparison to many others.
I got a 5 lb bag of their 'Earthquake claim' and 'Grizzly claim' dirt for $130 before tax/shipping. My total return on 10lbs of paydirt was .143 grams ($8.23 value)... That's less than 7% ROI.
I would expect this if I were out prospecting in a new area, but certainly not out of a company that "gaurentees" ROI on each bag.
I posted a review two weeks ago and no response from Yellowstone Paydirt. I sent a follow up a couple days ago, citing their claim about full ROI on each bag - still no response.
I would definitely stay away from Yellowstone Paydirt! Not worth your time or money!

Hey everyone, I hope this doesn't seem like too much of an ad for myself.
I've recently started an online gold pay dirt company "WNC Prospecting". I offer 3 different levels of gold pay dirt for beginners, intermediate & expert!
I have minimum quantity bags! Each level of pay dirt has a minimum quantities of quarter, half and full gram bags!
Depending on the spot price of gold, the ROI from my pay dirt is between 60%-65%! This is much higher than most online pay dirt vendors!! :D
Inside of every bag is 10oz of river material from Western North Carolina, of course the gold haha, a gold pan keychain, and a unique coin!
I really enjoy prospecting and living in an area that isn't dense in gold, it made me think about the people who live miles and miles from the nearest gold deposit. This is my way of offering the thrill of gold prospecting to people like this or just anyone who enjoys the thrill of panning for gold! Of course, as a business I have to make money, but I try to give my customers the best ROI possible!

the website https://wncprospecting.com i think is broken, cant go to the paydirt. click on shop now, and it doesnt go any where.

in general i have found more paydirt bags return 50-60% in gold of the cost. i have only tried a few places. Winter is coming so may get some from a few more different places.

I bought a bag from Roaring Camp of ~3/4" screened material this past month. Had a decent amount of gold, 0.8 grams, with 2 pickers and flakes. Agree with folks that it's for the fun and practice and not to make money. I panned it out and now I'm going to run those "tailings" through the gold cube to see what I missed. Merry Christmas to all.
