    Hello to all,

Wife and i just retired and joined the GPAA. Wife is not interested in metal detecting for nuggets and i am looking for some local folks who would be willing to get together with a newbie for detecting and prospecting. I bought a Minelab GPX 4000 with 3 coils and a new Minelab Gold Monster 1000 and need to get out and do a lot of learning on both of the, so someone with experience that would give tips and advice would be greatly appreciated. I am located in Rosbeburg but will to do some traveling. So any members out there who would be willing please contact me. My e-mail addy is Hondolane1953@hotmail.com  if you want to get ahold of me that way. Thanks and Happy Hunting.

Thank you for the reply. I would except the closest GPAA chapter is nearly 200 miles from me in Portland.

I would suggest contacting the closest chapter to you, they may have members close to you that are looking for someone to go out with or they may have some outings that they have throughout the year that are close enough for you to participate.

Rod -  Nearest Oregon Chapter is Mid Valley, located in Brownsville (about halfway between Salem and Eugene, exit 216 on I-5)  Meeting are the first Sunay of the month at 1:30 PM at the fire station on the east end of town. Except when that w/e falls on a holiday.  About 90 miles from you.  Next two meetings are May 6th and June 3rd.  If you folks can make the trip, would love to have you.   Used to be a chapter in Roseburg, there may be enough interest in the area to get it cranked up again, you would have to do some checking around on that and work with the office on that one.  I can also put you in contact with the regional membership person, and he can help on that.  Our state director used to be in the old Roseburg chapter, and he may know some that would still be interested, or at least contacts for you to get out and do some prospecting.

There are two GPAA claims about 30 miles east of Cottage Grove (one is a bear to get to the creek and back out, high clearance vehcile highly suggested- this is the Paradise claim), Cat is accessable by passenger car.  Also 3 claims in Quartzville area east of Sweet Home that the chapter has adopted, all accessable by passenger car.

Anything I can help with, feel free to drop me a PM.

Thank you very much for the info and the invite Arthur. Wife and i went to one of the claims near us yesterday east of Azalea, the He comes on a White Horse claim. Was easy to get to with a car. Unfortunately i didn't take Anything with me, not even a pan since it was going to be just a See if we could find it trip. But it is close so we can go back with the tools needed soon. Will try to make it up to Brownsville for a meeting. Thanks again.
