I recently returned from the Concord, N.C. and Carlisle, Penn., gold shows. I always look forward to the shows back East with eager anticipation to witness the brilliant colors of the Fall season there. Once again, I was not disappointed.

I must admit I was a little leery this year. The economy has hit our members like many other Americans and I wasn’t sure we would have the turnout we typically produce. But, to my surprise, we had two good shows. It was nice seeing familiar faces and meeting members I have not had the pleasure to meet before.

In North Carolina, we were invited to a meeting with the Salisbury (N.C.) Chapter and a cookout in our honor. Those kind folks sure know how to put on a spread. We had a wonderful meal, great conversation, and enjoyed the evening immensely. Thank you again to our friends from the Salisbury Chapter - Bobby Crawford (North Carolina’s State Director) and his wife, Hope, for hosting the cookout.

The Matthews (N.C.) Chapter introduced its latest find with a metal detector at the Concord show. A gentleman from the Matthews Chapter recently found a 149-gram nugget and named it the “Potato Nugget.” What a beauty that nugget was!

In Pennsylvania, we also enjoyed the company and assistance of the Alleghany, Mason Dixon, Delaware Valley and the Tomah chapters. These folks are a lot of fun and many members of these chapters utilize their creative influences to make their booths stand to attention above the others.

Thanks again to all the volunteers who help us to make the shows a success. I look forward to seeing you again next year.
