- ALASKA EXPEDITION “WHAT TO BRING” CHECK LIST -


(All info is Subject to Change)





  • Baggage – Recommend Military type Duffel Bag. Baggage regulations, weight and fees are determined and controlled by the airlines and are subject to change. You are responsible to contact the airlines prior to departure to verify. It takes at least two bags plus a carry-on for this trip. All airlines will charge a fee for bags weighing over 50 lbs. Some airlines will charge one fee for 1st bag and additional fee for 2nd bags, etc.


  • Baggage Identification Tags - Suggestion: Other travelers may have the same and/or similar look as your Bags; besides the I.D. Tag add special identification like a ribbon, sticker, etc. This is helpful especially on route if you have to retrieve your baggage between airline flight changes.


  • Identification – You must carry legal proof of identification. The airlines will not except your ticket(s) and allow you to board the aircraft if your name is not identical to your driver’s license, or other form of legal identification.


  • Driver’s License or other legal identification


  • Medical and/or Accident Insurance Card


  • Bedding – Bunks are plywood


  • Sleeping Bag – 4 lb. insulated for cold weather


  • Pillow


  • Blanket (opt’l)



  • Air mattress or foam pad (twin size/do not bring double or queen size) –Air Mattress, bring pump and/or batteries


Clothing -Temperatures range from 40 to 70+ degrees, so bring appropriate clothing and sufficient changes for the length of your stay. Washers and dryers are available in camp.

  • Rubber coated work gloves _____ Thermal Underwear

  • Personal Medical – See “What to Expect” Info for Medical information. Cripple River Camp has a medical staff & aid station (24 hr.). There is a hospital in Nome, AK. Recommend to bring small travel sizes.

    • _____ Personal First-Aid Kit _____ Personal Cough/Pain (Tylenol, Ibuprofen, etc.)/Allergy Medications

    • ______ Insect Repellent Lotions with DEET is recommended



    • C-Pap Machine: There is no electricity to the hooch’s. Generators provide electricity to the main camp. The C-Pap Machine will need to have its own battery source at night. The camp has a limited supply of 12 volt batteries that you may use, but on a “first come, first serve” availability. Batteries can be recharged during the day. However, you will need equipment and/or adapters to connect your C-Pap to the battery; these are not supplied by the camp you will have to purchase/bring this equipment with you. Each company may have a different equipment set-up, check with you Doctor and/or the manufacturer.
      If you have a water reservoir/heater on you C-Pap machine, it has been advised not to use this when running your C-Pap off of the battery as it may damage the unit.

      • _____ Fishing Gear - Medium weight with 8 to 10 lb. test line. Lures with bright pink or orange
        colors seem to work best.

      • _____ Pocketknife or Hunting Knife with sheath. Cannot carry on plane, must be in baggage.

      • _____ Firearms - Recommend a .44 magnum handgun or 12-gauge shotgun with buckshot or slug.

      • *Important: It is the responsibility of the participant to check with the originating Airlines for Firearms Regulations. All firearms are to remain unloaded while in camp for safety and the safety of others. If you do leave camp, your firearm can be loaded approx. ¼ mile from camp and then unload upon your return approx. ¼ mile from camp.

        • _____ 50 feet nylon rope 1/8" or 3/16" – Tying down equipment and/or ATV use

        • _____ Tarp 8' x 10' OR 10' x 10' reinforced plastic tarp with eyelets. Keeps you and your
          equipment dry in the field and/or cover ATV, etc.

        • _____ Metal Detector – For traveling, dismantle to fit in baggage or as a carry on.

        • Special –


        • _____ IF, you have made advanced arrangements at the Dredging Camp to dredge, you will need

        • a wetsuit, hood, booties, mask, snorkel and regulator. A limited number of weights are
          available, so plan a head.
