I looked at the Nome Web cam today and saw nothing but white and figured that it must be broken. Curiosity usually gets the best of me though, so I checked the weather and found that they’re getting a snow storm with strong winds, high surf and bitter temperatures that would be lucky to get out of the 10’s!
Despite the bad weather, the work we’re doing to prepare for the 2010 Expedition has really got me missing it up there. With the storms that have hit since summer, and an El Nino predicted for this winter, hopes for new gold on the beach next season are high!
This will be my fifth summer working at Cripple River Camp and each year brings amazing challenges, great friendships, new experiences and, of course, GOLD!
I spent some time last year working the beaches and dredging Arctic Creek. For the little amount of free time that I had to prospect, I was very happy to come home with well over one ounce of gold! Additionally, I think that some of the knowledge I gained about the Seward Peninsula gold deposits will prove to be a big help in finding a good spot for 2010.
Remember … the more you learn about the geology and gold deposits of areas you plan on prospecting, the better your chances are of locating a good spot! I hope that you get the opportunity to join us for the prospecting adventure of a lifetime at the 2010 Alaska Expedition!
