Firstly, it is my sad duty to report that Big John Duhanich is retiring from his column, Gold Grubbin' Gourmet. I have enjoyed his recipes over the years that I have been here, and I know many of you have been enjoying them for much longer as he has written for Gold Prospectors for many years. We are sorry to see him go and we'll miss him. If you have ever met him or gotten to talk with him, he is quite a character and a wonderful man. Good luck to you, John, and God bless you.
With Big John retiring, we sat down to decide what was to be done. We all felt we wanted to keep a recipe column. In the end, we decided to open it up to you, our members. Do you have a favorite camping, comfort, desert or snack recipe that you like to have when out prospecting? Or, do you have a recipe that regardless of where or when you eat it you feel is simply the best and would like to share it with your fellow members? Can you grill it or cook your fave food on an open flame over a campfire? Even better! Send your recipe to Gold Prospectors Magazine, Attn: Editor / Content Director Brad Jones. Your recipes must include a color food photo to be accepted for publication.
Just maybe you'll open Gold Prospectors to find your recipe in it! If your recipe is accepted you will get paid for your submission and recieve a couple extra copies of the magazine issue in which your recipe is published. Please send copies of any photos as they will not be returned. Or, email them to content@goldprospectors.org with "recipe" in the subject line. Emailed photos should be high resolution (in the megabytes — not kilobytes) for print. Photos cannot be more than 10 MB per email. So, please send them one at a time if necessary. Be sure to include photo captions.
Thinking ahead to the 2013 calendar
On another note, it is time to start working on the 2013 calendar. Man, time really flies! It seems I was just doing this for the 2012 calendar.
If any of you have not gotten your 2012 calendar, I urge you to get one ... and not just because I designed them, but because of all the wonderful photos, you, our members contributed.
For the 2013 calendar contest \, we have added something new. The cover shot wins a $75 GPAA gift certificate and the winners for the 12 months get $40 GPAA gift certificates (certain restrictions apply with the gift certificates). But if your photo also wins in one of these four categories: funniest, cutest, best family outing or most beautiful, you will win your choice of either a 3-day outing or DVD box set of your choice.
You can mail in your photos (not printed from your personal printer) to GPAA, Attn: Editor / Art Director Celeste Bivin or email them to publications@goldprospectors.org. Please remember photos will not be returned so send in copies. Also keep in mind that even if you are not a chosen winner, you may still see your picture on the Member's Page in Gold Prospectors Magazine.
So, get those recipes and photos in!
